Jesus never said forgiveness means forgetting. God’s forgiveness wipes our spiritual slate clean, but earthly consequences and painful memories may remain. Jesus calls us to forgive as we’ve been forgiven—not to excuse wrongdoing, but to release grudges, seek healing, and trust God for a new beginning.
